Braemar Castle was built in 1628 by the Earl of Mar. It was built over the top of an older fortification site.
It is an L-plan castle with star shaped curtain wall. The castle is in complete repair and privately owned. It is located just north of Braemar city and open to the public during the summer months.
We arrived at the castle site too early to tour it, so this is
the only picture we have.
