| Denmylne was probably built in the mid 16th century. The
land was granted to the Balfour family with the provision
that they build a Hall there. It has a cross shape to
the building and there were two rooms to each floor. The
tower was inhabited until the 18th century, when the laird
disappeared under mysterious circumstances. It is privately owned and only marginally maintained. That is a tree growing in the middle of it. There is the remains of a water mill about 30 yards away. |
