[Highland Region]

Urquhart is almost in the middle of Loch Ness's west shoreline. Very popular spot, there were several tour buses stopping here and children calling for Nessie. The first recorded Nessie story is from the sixth century. Saint Columba was journeying to see King Brude (Pictish king) and discovered a man being attacked by a water beast. He drew the sign of the cross and ordered the monster to leave. Of course the beast turned and fled.

This was the site of a hill fort before the castle was built. The dating for the fort is not very good but seems to indicate about 2000 BC.
